Tendonitis is characterized by excruciating pain in shoulders, knees, elbows or other parts of your body with tendons. Tendons are strong bands of tissue that act as connectors between the bones and muscles. They facilitate the movement of your joints and muscles during contraction of muscles.
Tendons can be injured in a variety of ways. Some of the common tendon injuries include;
- Rupture of tendons
Tendonitis is characterized primarily by the inflammation of tendons located in the lower parts, upper shoulder, torso, hips among other areas of human body.
Common symptoms of tendonitis include aching in the tendons, inflammation of tendons, swelling, stiffness etc.
Tendonitis is usually a direct consequence of physically taxing activities and mostly results from sports. It can affect a wide range of body parts including heels, fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders among other areas.
1: Application of Elastic Bandages
Employing the use of elastic bandages on the affected areas or alternatively a warm wrap have been known to provide instant relief to inflammation and swelling caused by tendonitis. It is also known to hasten the healing process.
You can easily buy elastic bandages and warm wraps off the shelf of your local convenience store.
Note: Do not strap the affected areas too tightly with elastic bandages as it will hamper the blood flow and circulation and exacerbate the already excruciating pain that you are feeling. If you feel an increase in pain or swelling, immediately soften the grip of bandage to allow for the circulation of blood.
2: Strapping the Affected Area With Vinegar Cloth
Vinegar is known to be an effective natural ingredient rich in its anti-inflammatory properties. The application of vinegar cloth in conjunction with both hot and cold strappings is quite effective in treatment of tendonitis.
The hot wraps help in reducing the pain and swelling resulting from tendonitis while the cold wraps are useful in reduction of inflammation resulting from tendonitis.
It can be applied in the following manner:
- Heat a mixture of water and white vinegar in equal proportion
- Mix a solution of vinegar and cold water in another pan in equal proportion
- Soak a washcloth in the hot mixture prepared in the first step and squeeze it to get rid of the excess liquid
- Now strap the affected area with the warm wash cloth after wringing out the excess liquid
- Repeat the aforementioned process with a washcloth soaked in the cold water solution
- Repeat this exercise 3 times a day daily until the pain resulting from tendonitis subsides
- Apply a moisturizer on your skin at the end.
Acupuncture comes highly recommended from a study published in The Journal of Integrative Medicine in China in 2013. According to this study, acupuncture provided relief from the excruciating pain, inflammation and swelling for people in China suffering from acute tendonitis. Acupuncture assists in increasing the oxygen in your blood flow to tendons which in turn is quite effective in reduction of inflammation and aching of your knee area.

4: Carbonated Water
Carbonated water is extremely useful when it comes to reduction in inflammation and pain resulting from tendonitis. Through application of reverse osmosis, it also draws out excess liquid from around your feet area.
Soak the affected areas in sugarless carbonated water for 15-20 minutes for 2-3 times a day regularly until the pain and inflammation subside.
